Jon is a clinical academic with an international reputation in the field of infectious diseases, served two terms as President of the International Society for Infectious Diseases, and was the Foundation Dean of Brighton & Sussex Medical School, where he holds an Emeritus Chair.
As well as 40 years of clinical practice he has extensive experience of senior management in the NHS having served as a non-executive director on three Trust Boards.
Current responsibilities include Chair of the Appeal Panel for NICE [National Institute for Health & Care Excellence], and member of the National Committee for the ACCIA [Advisory Committee for Clinical Impact Awards]. He was a trustee of Versus Arthritis including periods as Chair of their Scientific Strategy Committee and Charitable Purposes Committees, and is currently a trustee at Kings College Hospital Charity. He was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and as a member of Academia Europea.
