“The UK must think globally on building back momentum post-pandemic”

COP26 has a strong bearing on our Global Britain discussion as a lot of digital tech is very energy intensive and leaves a carbon footprint.

The idea of ‘Global Britain’ is a hot topic at the moment and we’re very excited to be hosting an online event on Tuesday 23rd March to highlight what it means for health and care.

It’s a chance for us to focus on those areas of research and policy development close to our hearts at Future Care Capital: in particular, healthcare data, next generation medical devices, enterprise and innovation.

Our panel of experts will be discussing the issues and opportunities against a backdrop of the government stepping up efforts to forge new links abroad post-Brexit.

One focus is closer ties with the Pacific Rim nations and hopes of joining the massive trade block of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Meanwhile at home the UK is hosting the G7 Leaders’ Summit in June as well as the UN Climate Change conference COP26 in Glasgow in November.

We are at a pivotal stage in terms of what comes next with our European and global partners, as all of us look to how we build back momentum following the pandemic.

Carbon footprint

COP26 has a strong bearing on our Global Britain discussion as a lot of digital tech is very energy intensive and leaves a carbon footprint.

Countries are striving for net zero and green energy which is leading to a growing trend of outsourcing data storage and processing as nations struggle to reduce their individual carbon footprint. This is the digital equivalent of sending off refuse to be processed by developing countries.

According to a new Fairtrade Foundation analysis almost half of the emissions linked to UK consumption are generated overseas.

We’ll be discussing concerns over climate offsetting overseas for digital trade at the webinar. Other issues up for debate include competition and monopolisation in digital trade, healthcare and protection of patient data rights.

We’ll also be looking at how different global approaches to regulation of patient safety and health and care affect our digital exports.

We’re looking forward to a lively discussion so I do hope you can spare an hour to join us.
