12 February 2020 – The Health of the Nation: Launch of the National Strategy

Past Event

After nine months, the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Longevity have reached an important milestone in their work, a national consultation and 11 Advisory Board meetings between May – November 2019.

It’s exciting to have helped set the UK on a clear path to achieve the government’s goal “for everyone to have five extra years of healthy, independent life by 2035.” The APPG is proposing policy and cross-sector collaboration to narrow the shocking life expectancy gap between the richest and poorest.

More than 500 people came to the launch hosted by Ageing Research at King’s College London to hear the Health Secretary Matt Hancock, our chair Damian Green MP, our co-leaders and report co-authors Lord Filkin and Tina Woods, together with Professor Sir Robert Lechler, Senior Vice President/Provost (Health) and Executive Director of King’s Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre; Jennifer Dixon of The Health Foundation; Andy Briggs of The Longevity Council; Jon Ashworth, Shadow Secretary of State for Health; Lord Kerslake, Lord O’Shaughnessy, and many distinguished others.
