Cabinet reshuffle: New Secretary of State for Health and Social Care

8th January 2018 about a 1 minute read

The Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP has been appointed the new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care as part of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet reshuffle.

Responding to the Cabinet reshuffle, Joel Charles, Deputy Chief Executive of Future Care Capital, said:

We welcome the Prime Minister’s decision to appoint a new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. Our prediction was correct and signals the Government’s intent to lead by example in integrating oversight of these vital services. The announcement comes at a critical juncture as reflected in recent media headlines and the substance of this afternoon’s urgent question in the House of Commons. The Secretary of State will now lead the forthcoming Green Paper consultation and must ensure no further delay to much needed reforms that should aim to deliver a long-term settlement for health and adult social care provision. How the Government goes about joining up local and central budgets to bring about the unification of health and care service provision remains to be seen.
