Sajid Javid takes over from Matt Hancock

Political heavyweight Savid Javid, a former Chancellor of the Exchequer and Home Secretary,  was also  at one stage the minister in charge of social care in England.

But though he brings knowledge and understanding of the sector and its key issues, the transformational changes needed are daunting, and Dr Peter Bloomfield, Head of Policy & Research at Future Care Capital comments: “It will be interesting to see how the approach to digital technology and data progress under Sajid Javid.

“Hancock brought a keen approach to digital with him from DCMS, which at times was viewed with some scepticism.

“For Javid, the Delta variant, new mutations, and longer term vaccine and long COVID strategies will be early tests.

“His time as home secretary will likely inform some of the forward approach to border control and international passporting.”

Javid has announced he wants to see an end to the pandemic “as soon and quickly as possible”.
