Welcoming our new trustees: strengthening leadership for a new chapter at FCC
24th April 2025 about a 4 minute read

As we step forward with a renewed mission and clearer focus, we are delighted to welcome a group of exceptional new trustees to the Board of Future Care Capital.

Their appointments come at a pivotal time for FCC. With our updated brand, refreshed positioning and a new strategic emphasis on evaluation, innovation management and impact investment, the organisation is entering a new chapter – one that demands bold leadership, diverse perspectives and deep sector knowledge.

Our new trustees bring all of this and more.

A board shaped for the future

Each new trustee offers specialist expertise that aligns with FCC’s strategic direction. Their backgrounds span health, social care, finance, policy and innovation.

Together, they bring fresh thinking, deep experience and a shared commitment to FCC’s mission: to break down barriers, build collaboration and drive systemic change that improves lives.

We are pleased to welcome:

  • Hak Salih, a leader in healthcare innovation, startup strategy and digital transformation, with senior experience at AWS and MedCity
  • Hilary Newiss, a seasoned non-executive director and former solicitor, whose leadership in innovation, health and policy includes the British Science Association, the Intellectual Property Office and National Voices.
  • Professor Jon Cohen, an internationally recognised clinician and academic, with decades of experience in infectious diseases, NHS governance and medical education.
  • Sarah Banham, a pioneering nurse leader with over four decades of experience in primary care innovation, both in the UK and internationally.
  • Darshak Shah, a health entrepreneur and expert advisor on NHS commissioning, productivity enhancement, capacity expansion and patient choice.

Each of our new trustees brings not only professional insight but a deep understanding of the systems FCC works within – and the people we exist to serve.

Why now?

Over the past six months, FCC has undertaken a strategic repositioning: clarifying our offer, refining our services and preparing for greater impact. This refreshed direction demanded a board that could bring both support and challenge – as well as lived experience from across the health, care and innovation landscape.

These appointments help expand our capacity and insight at a moment when the sector needs strong, collaborative leadership. They join the organisation as we roll out new programmes, sharpen our propositions and build deeper relationships across systems.

We are also pleased to confirm that Joe Steel has taken up the role of Chair, providing continuity and strategic oversight through this period of growth and change.

In addition, we are fortunate to retain the ongoing leadership and expertise of Michael Dumigan and Lise Pape, who continue to serve on the Board.

Standing on strong foundations

As we welcome our new board members, we also want to acknowledge those who have helped shape the journey to this point.

After eight years of service as Chair, Andrew Whelan has stepped into a new role as an FCC Ambassador, continuing to support our work through advocacy.

He is joined by fellow outgoing trustee Irene Grey, whose long-standing contribution has helped anchor our work in social care realities and policy insight. Irene will also continue as an Ambassador for FCC.

Dr Neil Churchill will also stand down after six years on the board and is thanked for his invaluable perspectives and strategic guidance.

We are deeply grateful to both Andrew, Irene, and Neil. Their leadership has been instrumental in shaping FCC’s growth, and we are proud that they will remain close to the organisation as we move forward.

Looking ahead

The appointment of our new trustees marks more than a change in our board of trustees – it is a signal of intent.

It demonstrates FCC’s commitment to strengthening our governance, deepening our knowledge base and preparing for the future with ambition and purpose.

We are excited by the collective expertise, energy and vision this new board brings. And we look forward to working with them as we continue to support innovation, evaluation and investment across the health and care landscape.

Welcome to FCC. We are glad you are here.
